Last week on our first ever Facebook LIVE with REVIV, Dr. Ala and I touched on the importance of a primary care or family healthcare provider. And I wanted to elaborate more on that topic.
A primary care provider (PCP) is a licensed healthcare provider (physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant) who has been trained in general or family practice. As a family nurse practitioner, I have the ability to assess, diagnose, and manage conditions from birth to elderly individuals. The care from a primary provider can also serve the entire family. A PCP is someone who knows your personal health history, family history, preference in treatment choices, personality, and daily lifestyle. A PCP gets to know the whole you.
For you that means, having someone you know and trust on your wellness team that considers all aspects of your life when providing recommendations on your journey to wellness. For example, if heart disease strongly runs in your family, your PCP is aware of this and will help you with diet and lifestyle choices that will minimize your risk of acquiring heart disease. If you have children, a family practice PCP will also take this information into consideration when assessing and planning their care to set them up for health success from the start.
Primary care providers are experts on prevention. This involves prevention of disease, screening for early detection & intervention, and providing recommendations that will prevent a problem from getting worse.
At REVIV, our mission is to walk alongside our clients on their journey to wellness.
This requires a client to have the right mindset of being willing to make changes in their lifestyle that will impact the broad concept of their overall health. It is our mission to provide responsible medical management involving the least invasive form of treatment possible.
We look forward to walking alongside you in your journey to wellness.
